Bill Lawrence's upcoming comedy series at HBO has been titled 'Rooster' and is set to debut in March 2026. The 10-episode season, produced by Warner Bros. Television, is a comedy centered around a college campus and the complicated relationship between an author (Steve Carell) and his daughter (Charly Clive).
The series also stars Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. Lawrence, who co-showruns with Matt Tarses, also serves as an executive producer. Carell, who stars in the series, is also an executive producer.
In addition to 'Rooster', Lawrence is working on Season 3 of 'Shrinking' for Apple TV, which he created with Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein. He's also adapting 'Bad Monkey' for Season 2, which is currently in production in California with a $20 million tax credit.
Carell has recently appeared in 'The Four Seasons' on Netflix and 'Mountainhead' on HBO. Charly Clive, a British actress, landed the female lead role alongside Carell after competing with a half-dozen other 30-something actresses.
The pilot episode of 'Rooster' was written by Lawrence and Tarses, and is executive produced by Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, and Anthony King, in addition to Carell and Tarses. The series is also produced by Lawrence's Doozer banner.
The series has received positive reviews, with some critics praising its unique take on the college campus setting and the dynamic between the author and his daughter. Others have noted its strong ensemble cast and the potential for a long-running series.
