ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan football team's impressive run of victories against their archrivals from Ohio State has come to a crashing halt after four straight wins.

Struggling with an unproductive offense and a defense that couldn't contain the Buckeyes' dynamic aerial assault, the Wolverines were thoroughly outplayed, falling 27-9 to the top-ranked Ohio State squad.

This defeat at The Big House extinguished any chances for Michigan to challenge for a berth in the College Football Playoff or to compete for the Big Ten championship crown.

Finishing the game with a 9-3 overall record and 7-2 in conference play, Michigan managed only 163 yards in total offense, dwarfed by Ohio State's 419. Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin completed passes for 233 yards and three scores, showcasing his arm strength.

Wide receiver Carnell Tate, who had been out for most of November due to injury, stepped up to lead the team's receptions with five catches netting 82 yards. Jeremiah Smith contributed three grabs for 40 yards.

Michigan briefly took the lead early on, thanks to a 45-yard field goal by kicker Dominic Zvada, followed by an interception of Sayin's throw that led to another 25-yard field goal.

But as the contest progressed, Michigan's struggles to sustain drives and advance the ball became glaring issues. And this is the part most people miss—the Wolverines' inability to capitalize on opportunities highlighted their offensive limitations, especially against a powerhouse defense. For beginners in football, think of it like this: Imagine trying to build a house but running out of bricks halfway through—you start strong but can't finish due to mounting challenges. Redshirt freshman running back Jordan Marshall powered through for 61 yards but exited partway after worsening a previous shoulder ailment.

Quarterback Bryce Underwood played a clean game without turnovers, yet his impact was minimal: He connected on just 8 of 18 passes for 63 yards and added a single rushing yard.

The receiving corps offered scant support, as Ohio State's elite defense shut down Michigan's options. Donaven McCulley hauled in three passes for 46 yards, while rookie Andrew Marsh didn't record a reception.

Following that early interception, Ohio State mounted a dominant response, converting five out of their next six possessions into points, including consecutive touchdowns before the break. The Buckeyes' initial score came on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Sayin, which underwent review after Smith seemed to bobble the ball while crossing the goal line.

Ohio State, boasting a perfect 12-0 record and 9-0 in the Big Ten, overwhelmed Michigan with a 27-3 edge in the second half. They sealed the victory with a marathon 20-play drive that consumed nearly 12 minutes of clock time.

Michigan's defensive line couldn't generate pressure on Sayin throughout the matchup. The redshirt freshman signal-caller completed 19 of 26 attempts with ample pocket time, and the Wolverines failed to notch a single sack.

Looking ahead, Michigan must now observe the remaining games unfold. Coach Sherrone Moore's squad remains in contention for a prestigious Big Ten bowl matchup, set to be announced next Sunday, December 7.
