FAQs
What type of printing is HP Indigo? ›
Digital offset printing is the term used to describe the HP Indigo process. It uses a heated blanket, much like in offset printing, before transferring the ink onto the substrate using pressure.
What type of printer is an indigo? ›It uses a proprietary printing process which is similar to the process used in laser printers, but with special electrostatically charged inks instead of toner, and without using a fuser, using instead a heated transfer roller to melt the charged ink particles before applying them to the paper.
How does an Indigo printer work? ›HP Indigo uses a blanket to transfer ink to media. The blanket is heated, melting and blending the ElectroInk particles into a smooth film. This produces an image that is completely defined on the blanket, transferred to the substrate by direct contact.
Can HP Indigo print white? ›Not only does the HP Indigo press supply the highest quality digital print, it also has advanced capabilities. It can print white and metallic inks such as gold and silver.
How much is an HP Indigo press? ›Dimensions (H x W x D) | 81.7" x 155.5" x 89.8" |

Digital printing refers to methods of printing from a digital-based image directly to a variety of media. Meaning: It goes directly from your PDF file, for instance, straight to the digital printer. There is no need to create any plates, and setup time is a fraction of the time offset printing would take.
What is offset printing process? ›Offset printing, also called offset lithography, is a method of mass-production printing in which the images on metal plates are transferred (offset) to rubber blankets or rollers and then to the print media. The print media, usually paper, does not come into direct contact with the metal plates.
What is HP Indigo certified? ›RIT's HP Indigo certification program enables media manufacturers, suppliers and HP Indigo digital press owners to evaluate compatibility with HP Indigo Digital Offset Color™ presses.
Is HP Indigo ink environmentally friendly? ›The award confirms that packaging and other materials printed with Indigo Electroinks biodegrade in accordance with EN 13432, the European standard for compostability.
What is liquid electrophotography? ›
Liquid electrophotography (LEP) is a “thermal offset” process created by Indigo to use a liquid toner. An electrostatically charged Photo Imaging Plate (PIP) mounted on the imaging cylinder is scanned by laser diodes controlled by the RIP (raster image processing) software.
Can HP Indigo print Pantone? ›HP Indigo provides a number of color profiles in the DFE that can be used for different applications in the press (e.g. Pantone matching, photo applications, etc.)

---|---|
Digital Silver Halide | 17-40 years, dependingon brand |
Ink Jet | 100+ years for some branded ink/papers; but less than 5 years for other combinations |

There are no stages between the finished digital image and the printing process, making it much quicker and easier than traditional printing methods.
Does digital printing last? ›Durability - Digital prints can deteriorate as you wash your clothes, especially if you are washing with hot water. While screen printing does not have this problem, if done correctly, your print will retain its color and vibrancy for a long time.
Which is better digital or offset printing? ›In general, offset printing is regarded as being of higher quality; however, digital printing has made strides in respect to quality and two copies of the same design - one via offset printing, the other via digital printing - may appear identical to the untrained eye.
Is offset printing better than digital printing? ›Offset printing is the original, durable, and time-tested option. It's best for large to massive, cost-effective print runs. Plus, it guarantees excellent color options and the broadest range of surface print materials. Digital printing is a lightweight, cost-effective option for smaller quantity print runs.
What type of paper is used for offset printing? ›
Offset paper or offset printing paper is a type of woodfree paper, comparable to book paper, that is primarily used in offset lithography for printing books, magazines, manuals, catalogs, posters, calendars, flyers, letterheads, publication interior sheets, brochures, and envelopes.
What is Indigo certified? ›HP Indigo certified substrates and media have undergone rigorous testing to ensure the substrate's surface chemistry is compatible with HP's ElectroInk technology. HP ElectroInk technology directs the ink electronically using charged particles in the ink.
How long does it take for a printer cartridge to decompose? ›350 million printer cartridges are disposed of in landfill worldwide each year. The plastic that is contained within the casing of a printer cartridge can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.
Is HP ink safe to compost? ›HP inkjet inks are water-based and free of the heavy metals cadmium, mercury, lead, and chromium that are typically of most concern in the environment. However, HP inks have not been evaluated for suitability in composting systems.
Is HP Indigo Ink recyclable? ›HP Indigo prints can be recycled into many useful fiber-based materials. Some recycling applications also require deinking (separation of ink from the fibers and polymers), and HP Indigo prints can be deinked in relevant recycling applications that require ink removal.
What is the difference between LED and laser printers? ›The difference between the two printer technologies lies in how they illuminate the drum: Laser printers use a laser beam that tracks back and forth across the drum, while LED printers use an array of LEDs that flash the entire line all at once.
What does inkjet mean in a printer? ›An inkjet printer is a computer peripheral that produces hard copies of a text document or photo by spraying droplets of ink onto paper. A typical inkjet printer can produce color printing copies with a resolution of 1200 x 1440 dpi.
What are the 5 process of electrophotography? ›An electrophotographic printer consists of six processes: charging, exposure, developing, transfer, fusing and cleaning1.
Can you print Pantone colors digitally? ›Colors set up as Pantone swatches in a design program cannot simply be printed using a process printer. If you leave the conversion up to the printer or digital front end, it will attempt to translate your spot colors into combinations of cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink in a 4-color process.
Can digital printers print Pantone? ›Digital printing uses CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key*), so although the latest digital printing processes can get near, they will not create an exact Pantone Colour match.
What's digital printing? ›
Digital printing is the process of printing digital-based images directly onto a variety of media substrates. There is no need for a printing plate, unlike with offset printing.
What is offset printing process? ›Offset printing, also called offset lithography, is a method of mass-production printing in which the images on metal plates are transferred (offset) to rubber blankets or rollers and then to the print media. The print media, usually paper, does not come into direct contact with the metal plates.
