Nihon Falcom is doubling down on its commitment to the Nintendo Switch 2, and the gaming world is buzzing with anticipation! But here's the twist: they're not just porting old games; they're crafting brand-new experiences.
The renowned Japanese developer has confirmed its plans to self-publish major titles on Nintendo's latest console, a strategy that aligns with their impressive sales growth of 3.5% year-on-year, amounting to a substantial $16.7 million USD in 2025. With operating profit soaring by 8.1% and net profit climbing 6.0%, Falcom is riding a wave of success fueled by global releases like Trails through Daybreak II and Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, as well as the Japanese launch of Ys X: Proud Nordics.
Yet, Falcom isn't resting on its laurels. The company aims to expand its global reach, and the Switch 2 is a pivotal part of this strategy. But here's where it gets controversial: while the Switch 2 is a priority, Falcom is also eyeing multiplatform releases and multilingual support to broaden its audience. This includes English, French, German, and Spanish subtitles for Ys X: Proud Nordics and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
Despite recent success, Falcom acknowledges that ports have had a limited impact on business performance. Consequently, they're shifting gears and focusing on new titles. Over the next three years, Falcom aims to release two new games annually, and they're already working on six unannounced projects. Among these, two are ports (one for Switch 2), and three are entirely new games, including additions to the beloved Trails, Ys, and Tokyo Xanadu franchises.
2025 was a landmark year for Falcom, and 2026 promises to be even more exciting. The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is set to launch next week, and early reviews are glowing, especially for the Switch 2 version. Additionally, Ys X: Proud Nordics will make its international debut on February 20th, followed by the English release of Ys Memoire: Revelations in Celceta later in the year, and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter in the Fall.
With so many thrilling releases on the horizon, Falcom fans have a lot to look forward to. But what do you think? Are you thrilled about Falcom's expanded support for the Switch 2? Or do you think their focus on new titles might overshadow the potential of ports? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
