Get ready, mobile gamers! A brand-new extraction mode is coming to Call of Duty: Mobile, promising a thrilling experience unlike anything we've seen before. Called DMZ Recon, this mode throws you into a high-stakes world of loot, survival, and intense combat. It's all set to launch on December 11th, so mark your calendars!
This exciting new addition was first hinted at during COD Next 2025, and it's shaping up to be a PvPvE experience. That means you'll be battling not only other players but also AI-controlled enemies in a fight for survival. The action unfolds on a brand-new map called Serpent Island, where you'll face off against foes from two distinct factions: Kurohana Corp and Atlas Corp. Both factions will be gunning for you, so stay sharp!
But here's where it gets controversial...
Like any good extraction shooter, DMZ Recon is all about the loot. You'll need to scavenge for resources before making your escape. The mode will introduce missions and contracts to guide your gameplay. Missions provide objectives to complete within a match, while contracts reveal valuable locations for cash and loot. Once you've gathered your spoils, you'll need to reach an Exfil Point – the extraction zone – to secure your winnings.
To sweeten the deal, Call of Duty: Mobile is making progression easier. You don't have to successfully extract in every game to earn rewards. You can still complete missions and earn Class XP, even if you don't make it to the Exfil Point. This is a welcome change that should make the mode more accessible to all players.
DMZ Recon and the Esports Scene
Since its inception, Call of Duty: Mobile esports has primarily focused on the multiplayer mode. It's unlikely that the introduction of the DMZ mode will change this. However, the Battle Royale mode has seen occasional tournaments, like the recent COD Mobile Mythic Mayhem, where community members teamed up with creators for a shot at a $50,000 prize pool. Similarly, iFerg hosted a $25,000 Wildcard World Cup for the Battle Royale mode. Activision could potentially introduce similar tournaments for the new extraction mode, but nothing is confirmed yet.
What do you think? Will DMZ Recon be a welcome addition to Call of Duty: Mobile? Do you think Activision should create esports tournaments for the new extraction mode? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
