Bomb Cyclone Hits Northeast: Heavy Snow, Crashes, and Record Cold (2025)

Winter storm brings heavy snow to the Northeast, impacting travel and causing accidents. The storm, known as a bomb cyclone, has already caused a tractor-trailer accident in West Virginia, with the driver rescued from their cab hanging off a bridge. The storm is now moving up the East Coast, bringing widespread snow to the Northeast and New England. Philadelphia, New York, and Boston will miss out on heavy snow, while the Interior Northeast and New England could see up to 10 inches of snow. The storm will strengthen into a bomb cyclone with gusty winds as it moves up the New England coast, but Atlantic Canada is most at risk from the strongest winds. The storm is already causing cold temperatures and record-breaking temperatures are possible in the wake of the storm east of the Rockies. The Northeast is experiencing a chaotic morning commute with snow, a mix, freezing rain, and heavy rain. The rain-snow line is setting up near or just northwest of I-95, with folks southeast of the corridor potentially seeing a few flakes or a quick burst of sleet before a changeover to rain as temperatures climb. The storm has also brought heavy snowfall to St. Louis, Missouri, setting a new record daily snowfall of 3.8 inches on Monday.
